You will require a passport for travel to Europe, that is valid for at least six months after the date you intend to return to Australia.
Always keep a separate note of your passport number, place and date of issue, or preferably a photocopy of the back pages, packed separately from your passport. It is also recommended that you leave a copy with a friend at home and carry with you another form of identification (such as a driving licence). All of this will be useful if your passport is lost or stolen.

Important note on visas and the Schengen Area
During our, we visit Bulgaria and Croatia which are not part of the Schengen Area, and border controls are in operation upon entering and exiting the Schengen Area. Please check with the relevant country's tourism board to find out if you need a visa and/or any additional documentation for visiting these destinations.
